Comely Canine
Dear friends,
Our Creator is creative. Consider the variety of creatures He rescued on Noah’s boat. From chimpanzees to chipmunks, gorillas to goats. I’m reminded of His imagination every morning when I see the plethora of dogs out walking their peeps. That familiar adage on attraction often comes to mind: Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Oh bless them, owners are over the moon for their four-legged friends but my lans, some of those hounds are downright homely! Obviously a DNA Buffet, their mix-and-match is frightfully unsightly! But it’s obvious by the way folks fuss over them they think they’re the purtiest pup on the planet! “Oh, Fifi, give me a kiss…”
Have you ever stopped to ponder that’s just how your heavenly Father sees you? Now let’s be honest, even if you were the high school Homecoming Queen, all of us are unattractive on the inside. Our hearts are heinous. We judge, jab, sneer, demean and demand. We’re caustic, selfish, greedy and unkind. Unfortunately, it’s in our genes, passed through every generation since Adam and sneaky Eve. We’re a mish-mash of messy.
But the Good News is God loves you anyway. Once you are cleansed by Jesus’ blood, He sees you as holy. White as snow. Cleansed from all unrighteousness. A saint! Ain’t that just somethin’? As the Psalmist says, “It is too wonderful. I cannot attain it.” Psalm 139:6
Take some time today to relish the reality that though you are a mere mutt, God sees you as a comely canine with pure pedigree. You’ve got papers, people! Jesus signed your certificate at Calvary. And if there’s ever a time you’re doubting your divine transformation, meditate on these verses:
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Galatians 2:20
Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens; your faithfulness to the clouds. Psalm 36:5
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; They are new every morning; Great is your faithfulness. Lam 3:22
Then go on out for your morning walk, tail a waggin’!
Live Well,
Grace
